Snoring may be common, but is it normal?
It is estimated that 45% of adults snore occasionally, while 25% snore regularly, often disturbing their bed partner's rest.
Reasons: Snoring is the sound of obstructed breathing, which can be caused by poor muscle tone, bulky throat issues, or a long soft palate or uvula.
In some cases, snoring may be connected to more serious, even life-threatening, health concerns where a sleep test should be performed.
Sleep Apnea is Keeping You Up At Night
Sleep apnea is a serious sleep disorder in which an individual's breathing repeatedly stops and starts. It is most common in men and risk factors include age and obesity.
Common symptoms: Loud snoring, episodes in which you stop breathing during sleep, gasping for air during sleep, dy mouth, morning headache and difficulty staying asleep.
Restless Legs Syndrome
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological condition that causes an irresistible urge to move the legs. It is also a sleep disorder triggered by resting and attempting to sleep.
Sensations may feel like aching, throbbing, pulling, itching, crawling, or creeping. They less commonly affect the arms, rarely occur in the chest or head, and most often affect both sides of the body, but can also affect only one side.
Symptoms may vary from the individual and the day. It can severely interrupt sleep. making it difficult to fall asleep or return to sleep after waking up.
Insomnia
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. It affects women more often than men. Individuals can get it at any age, but older adults are more likely to have it.
Types of Insomnia:
Acute insomnia is common and can be caused by stress at work, family pressures, or a traumatic event. It usually lasts for days or weeks.
Chronic insomnia lasts for a month or longer and can be the secondary or the primary problem. Primary insomnia usually lasts more than one month/
Symptoms of insomnia:

Lying awake for a long time before you fall asleep

Short periods of sleeping

Waking up too early

Feeling as if you haven't slept at all

Being awake for much of the night

Sleepiness
Daytime sleepiness is the inability to stay awake and alert during the major waking episodes of the day, resulting in unintended lapses into drowsiness or sleep.
Hypersomnia means excessive sleepiness. Causes may be due to shift work, family demands, study or social life, or other sleep disorders, medication, and medical and psychiatric illnesses.
Symptoms of hypersomnia:

Feeling drowsy, despite sleeping and napping, not refreshed on waking up
